I believe it is critical to agree that VRML 1.0 is done. Here are the
reasons:
- Browsers are coming out now. Nothing will stop that. If we have a
sliding spec, then we will have different browsers supporting different
versions of the spec. (We will probably have different browsers supporting
different enhancements, but that is not the same as having multiple
versions of the same specification. I hope to see a version 1.1 quickly
with newer browsers supporting it. That is different than features which
are in some versions of VRML 1.0 and some that are not.)
- We have come a long way very quickly. Declaring 1.0 done gives us an
anchor. The stated process of discussing things on a quite little mailing
list and having a few authors write things up got us this far. But now
that the spotlights are on, I think a more formal procedure would be
appropriate. I believe that to be the IETF and the MIME types.

This is to say that we should make clarifications and certainly, if
anything that is really stupid slipped in, we should correct it. But,
we should not add features.
